The Black Dahlia
Chapter One: Bloom
The Courtesan of Konoha.
Konoha’s Pretty Face.
Konohagakure’s Divine Kitsune.
The Black Dahlia.
There were many names for him. But he was a legend. Kept quiet. There was no need for anyone to know of his existence, but for those who held the contracts and for those who he obeyed.
Uzumaki Naruto was quite the promiscuous person. But it was a rather required thing for his job.
And now he stood in front of the Hokage, robed in the finest of silk kimonos and waving one of his golden fans.
“Hokage-sama…I don’t understand. Does my work not please you?” his voice came out soft and bell-like.
“Naruto, you’ve done well. But I did not want this for you. I mean for you to try a different course. One as a genin of Konoha, a shinobi of the Leaf.”
The boy, no older than twelve, pursed his lips and narrowed his eyes.
“The Council will be angry.”
“I know.”
“I don’t want them to be angry. Not at you.”
“It’ll be okay. Just pass the Genin Exam tomorrow and I’ll be happy.”
“Sarutobi…” Naruto’s eyes softened. “I can’t,” the blond said finally.
The Sandaime frowned, “Naruto…”
“I can’t. I’m sorry.”
“I see. Then I’m making this a mission. A long-term S-rank where you will infiltrate the Genin ranks and you are to push the others to their full potential. I also want you to keep an eye out on Uchiha Sasuke.”
Naruto narrowed his eyes again, “The last survivor of the clan? I know that Ita-kun is infiltrating the organization Akatsuki, but the gaki doesn’t know that. Are you expecting me to persuade him off the path of an avenger?”
“Should you need to. I just want you to keep him tied to the village. And Orochimaru is seeking the Sharingan. We must protect the secrets of the Uchiha clan at all cost.
“I…also have one last mission from the Council. They wish for you to renew the bonds with Sunagakure. The Kazekage is here already.”
“Hokage-sama, I accept both missions,” he said reluctantly.
“I only wish…you could only accept one.”
“Choices are not always ours to make.”

The Genin Exam was pathetically easy. He had to create three bunshins, along with scoring at least an eight on kunai and shuriken accuracy, and an average on the written test.
Sighing in frustration, Naruto easily passed through the test like a breeze.
It was later that night, he was surprised to see the two chuunin examiners awaiting to meet with the Hokage. He was who he was. He didn’t need to wait. He walked passed them and entered the Hokage’s office, smirking mentally at the stunned gazes of the two ninja behind him.
“Naruto, please let Mizuki and Iruka in after you.”
Sighing, he motioned for the two to come in.
“Shall I leave to meet the Wind King now?” Naruto asked disinterestedly, using the Kazekage’s codename.
“Yes, but I wish to have guards for you. However, there aren’t any ANBU or jounins available. Mizuki and Iruka will be at your side tonight.”
“This…is unusual. Usually, when you assign me guards, ANBU or jounins are dispatched. Ah well. I don’t care either way. Shall I go now?”
“Yes…take care,” Sarutobi said fondly.
Naruto led the way out of the office, the two chuunins following behind him quietly.
“Naruto-kun, you did very good today on the test,” Iruka tried out.
“Thank you,” Naruto said shortly.
“What…exactly are we doing?” Mizuki asked hesitantly.
“I’m meeting the Kazekage. You are to make sure things don’t get ugly. However, wait outside the door.”
They were going to ask more questions; however Naruto stopped and motioned for them to stay outside the door. They had already reached their destination.
They peeked inside when Naruto opened the door and glided inside. It was a bedroom and they could see a figure sitting on the edge of the bed. The door closed and their confusion grew.
They became statues when minutes later moans echoed through the door.
The two only moved once Naruto emerged from the room, clad in a completely different outfit. The symbol of Suna was etched into the collar of the white yukata. It revealed more skin than the navy kimono he wore just moments before and the red fighting kimono he had worn earlier at the exam.
“I suppose you should drop me off and then head home,” Naruto informed them, quickly moving.
The chuunins said nothing, but fulfilled their job.
Iruka was thinking back to when he had thought in his mind of the despair of passing the jinchuuriki.
Mizuki was wondering whether it was still a good idea to go to Orochimaru or if he was just going to be used like Naruto was with the Council. No doubt they were behind this. It was a known fact that the Hokage didn’t want anything bad to happen to the Kyuubi vessel and that the Council disapproved of it.
Both of them knew this was no ordinary shinobi occupation. Shinobi were full of deceptions and kunoichi are expected to know how to seduce, but to focus fully on seduction is unheard of for ninja.
And yet, here was Uzumaki Naruto, a beautiful male that seemed quite familiar and used to it.
What has been going on behind the scenes of Konoha?

“Alright, the genin teams are to be announced!”
Iruka started it off, anxiously reading off the teams. He was looking forward to Naruto’s name coming up. Having grown fond of the boy in such a short time, Iruka was hoping the blond was up for some ramen.
Because despite the clip tone and the disinterested gaze directed at them, Naruto somehow had this aura of warmth and safety combined with gentle kindness.
He almost let out his glee when he spotted Naruto’s name.
“Team Seven: Uzumaki Naruto, Haruno Sakura, and Uchiha Sasuke.”
After that was all over, he was going to approach Naruto when he was headed off by one of the other chuunin teachers, dragged away to the teacher lounge.
Naruto sighed and stood up. He headed home to make himself something to eat before they were to meet with their sensei. Having read all of the copies of the Shinobi Bingo Book from all the villages, he knew about the Copy-nin Hatake Kakashi…their jounin sensei. However, from unrelated sources found in Konoha, he knew of the eccentricities the jounin had.
Therefore, the blond resigned himself to waiting for three hours before leaving.
As he walked back to the Academy, he tightened the obi on his fighting kimono. The fighting kimonos were all custom-made and given to him by the Raikage, the one who liked to dress him up the most. He supposed at least that they were finally being put to good use.
He was walking down the hall and was next to the door when said sensei finally poofed right in front of him, the both of them facing each other and standing in the way of the door.
They stared at each other before Naruto spoke, his bored gaze staring straight through Kakashi. The man wasn’t worth his time.
“You’re late…I expect you not to be next time. It’s common courtesy as well as common sense to arrive on time. There are some things that cannot wait for others. Death is one of them. Don’t be late unless you accept going to be late to saving someone. Then you really are a worthless ninja,” he said calmly before sliding the door open and slipping in.
A second later, Kakashi followed him.
“My first impression of all of you…is horror at what I have to deal with. Meet me in the roof in ten minutes.”
Up on the roof, Naruto once again felt extreme agitation. He didn’t want to be there. He didn’t want to accept this mission.
“Alright, introduce yourself. Your name, likes, dislikes, hobbies, dreams…” Kakashi lazily ordered them.
“I’m Haruno Sakura. My likes are Sasuke-kun, I dislike Ino-pig, my hobby is to cheer on Sasuke-kun, and my dream is to marry Sasuke-kun,” and although she said all that, her gaze was fixed on the blond.
‘I’m devoted to Sasuke-kun! I can’t let my attention wander. I won’t betray Sasuke! But he’s so pretty…’
“My name is Uchiha Sasuke. I have many dislikes and few likes. My hobby is to –
‘Brood,’ Naruto thought.
“ –train and become stronger. My dream is –”
‘To avenge and become the superhero known as the Punisher to right the wrong done onto me by thy brother…by punishing him with no pocky…’ the blonde interrupted once again in his head.
“-no dream, but an ambition. I will revive my clan and kill a certain person.”
‘Ugh. Avenger. Damn, I was such a fan of Marvel too. So much for Captain America and Iron Man…’
“Oh, it’s my turn already?” Naruto lazily raised an eyebrow when the three turned to look at him.
‘Well, damn. I never thought on what I should tell them.’
“My name is Uzumaki Naruto.”
They looked expectedly at him, waiting for him to say more. Naruto thought that his name was quite fine.
Kakashi cleared his throat, “Well, interesting start. I’m Hatake Kakashi and my likes and dislikes aren’t your business. I’ve never thought about my dreams…I guess I have many hobbies.”
Typical. Naruto rolled his eyes.
“Right, tomorrow at eight in the morning we’ll start off with some survival training that is the real genin test. Now that the weak has been weeded out, it’s time for a second look over to weed even more of you out. Only nine of the graduating class actually becomes genin, so be prepared to face a 66% failure rate test. I probably won’t pass you.”
Kakashi could see the Uchiha stiffen slightly and the girl wince. The blonde looked like he didn’t care.
“Don’t eat tomorrow. You’ll puke.”
And he disappeared, only really hiding on the side of the building.
“I suggest you don’t listen to what he says. Most of the time he’s full of crap. And I also suggest refraining from arriving exactly at eight. He’s known to be at least two hours late to everything.” Naruto recommended before leaving.
Kakashi’s mouth twitched upward. He wondered if they’d actually listened.
