Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto. If I did, even more drama would be present.
Story: Kakashi and Naruto November challenge at KakaNaru comm. in livejournal.
Set after Gaara’s rescue.
Spoilers: I don’t know…maybe for the shippuden series and the first series.
Warnings: Mainly yaoi…
Pairings: KakaNaru (sublime others)
A/n: I missed the other challenges before, but I decided to start now. Sorry it’s so early! Most stuff will be coming up soon, including some other one-shots and first chapters I didn’t bother to type up before or didn’t bother posting. Enjoy this and the others, please! Also, I love feedback. It helps me get the initiative to come up with stuff or post anything. Also, if you like Bleach, I’ll be posting up a Ukitake/Ichigo (yeah, weird pairing…) fic called the Red String of Fate. Nosdrovia.
November Challenge (stuffing, dumpling, and cornucopia):
Tsunade’s brilliant plan was to have the jounin give a gift to each of their students. It was a simple task, nothing to worry about. Only she wanted them to actually think about a gift that the student would actually want.
Kakashi had already figured out what to get his female student. She’d been hinting at that medical book all week and he’d gotten it because he wouldn’t know what else to get her. No, it was his blond that gave him troubles.
Naruto didn’t give him any hints as to what he wanted, like some of the other students had to their jounin sensei. And Kakashi, as much as it was obvious, was forbidden to buy Naruto any ramen for his gift. That left Kakashi at a lost.
He read through his books to see if there were any ideas, though he avoided his Icha Icha Paradise books for the sole fact that he didn’t think he’d find anything in there Naruto would like. He reached a mythology book and he flipped through it, just for fun.
He stopped on one page, bookmarked it, and left.
Kakashi worked on it, though it was such a simple thing, that day and night. He had to find all the right supplies and in the end he settled for a more simplistic approach than his eventual cutting off his fingers in his attempts to make it.
He calmly presented his present to Naruto in the blond’s apartment. Naruto blinked in confusion and stared at it strangely.
“Kaka-sensei…what is it?” Naruto asked, scrunching up his eyebrows.
“It’s a cornucopia.”
“…Okay….What the hell is that?”
Kakashi sighed, “In Greek mythology, Amalthea raised Zeus on the milk of a goat. In return, Zeus gave Amalthea the goat’s horn. It had the power to give to the person in possession of it whatever he or she wished for.”
Naruto shrugged, “Sorry, I still don’t get what that has anything to do with this thing.”
“I gave you a horn in response to that myth. Inside that horn there’s a piece of paper. Write down whatever you wish for, and I’ll see what I can do.”
“Oh, um…alright,” Naruto stared down at the horn in his hand.
Kakashi eye-smiled and poofed to his apartment. Naruto kept staring at the horn, calculating in his mind.
The next day Naruto went to Kakashi’s apartment and knocked nervously. The man was surprised at his arrival, but even more so when he saw the horn in Naruto’s hands. It was filled with dumplings.
“Nani? I looked up the myth. I know you said the myth and all, but you forgot to mention that typically the goat’s horn was supposed to be depicted with food,” Naruto said, looking away with an embarrassed scowl.
Kakashi smiled widely, not that Naruto could see it. “Actually, the depictions are of fruits and flowers. Nice words by the way, Naruto-kun.”
“Tch. I was just repeating some of the stuff I read,” Naruto muttered, his face heating up.
“Come in, Naruto.”
Naruto scuttled in, gripping tightly to the ornate ivory horn.
“That’s my great-grandfather’s horn,” Kakashi mentioned out of the blue, moving to his kitchen.
“Aa…”
“I recalled it and decided it was better than losing my fingers because of my poor attempts to carve out a horn,” Kakashi chuckled.
Naruto chuckled light with him.
“Here, I’ll take the dumplings and put it into a bowl,” Kakashi said, doing just that. He stopped short seeing the paper at the bottom. “Did you fill it out?” he questioned, still looking at it.
Naruto flushed red, “Um…maybe. It doesn’t matter.”
He moved to grab it and hide it, but Kakashi snatched it up and put it into his pocket. He placed the dumplings in a bowl and then took out the paper, beginning to read it.
I wish I wasn’t so lonely.
Kakashi looked up to see Naruto fidgeting around. He didn’t say anything for a second, but then he eye-smiled.
“Let’s eat those dumplings you made, Naruto.”
Naruto didn’t question how Kakashi knew that Naruto cooked it, but followed as they both sat at the table and ate them. Despite the awkward situation before, they ate in relatively good graces.
“Night, Kaka-sensei. See you,” Naruto waved goodbye, hurrying to get home before it the rain started to fully come down on them.
“Now about that wish…” Kakashi mumbled to himself, closing the door and thinking.
Thanksgiving had been at the end of that week and Naruto had not seen nor heard from Kakashi since they had eaten the dumplings Naruto had made together. Naruto felt a little disappointed, especially since Kakashi had seen his wish and hadn’t done anything. He could’ve at least forced a team picnic or something. Some part of Naruto even felt a little angry because Kakashi had said he would see what he could do about any wish of Naruto’s, though the blond just ignored that part.
Now it was Thanksgiving and Naruto felt worse, hoping he wouldn’t feel as lonely as last year. He was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice a presence picking him up and hauling him away until it was too late.
When Naruto regained his bearings, he recognized Kakashi’s apartment.
“Nande yo?” Naruto shook his head and stood up. He was immediately greeted by Kakashi.
“Happy Thanksgiving, Naruto-kun. The table set for just us two, and we have turkey, gravy, mash potatoes, and stuffing. The stuffing’s good. It’s an old recipe passed down from my great- great grandmother. It’s been a while since I last cooked it. I hope you like it,” Kakashi said, ushering Naruto to the table.
There was a variety of foods, and two glasses half-filled with some kind of wind. The cornucopia Kakashi had given to Naruto, but he’d forgotten to take back, was sitting innocently in the middle as part of the decoration.
“Um, you didn’t have to do all this, sensei.”
“Ah, but it’s only fair. You made dumplings last time, so I made something for you. Besides I wanted to.”
They sat down, facing each other, and began to eat.
“The stuffing really is good. Are you sure you made it?” Naruto teased.
Kakashi shrugged, “Maybe.”
Naruto stuck out his tongue and then laughed.
“What?” Kakashi blinked in confusion.
“It’s just that this is fun and I’m just really happy…and the fact you can actually cook.”
“Hmph, ungrateful brat,” Kakashi said, though he winked at Naruto. “I have one last thing to give you, though.”
Kakashi disappeared into his room and Naruto waited. Getting tired to the wait, Naruto looked for something to focus on. The cornucopia was still sitting there so he stood up and walked towards it. Picking it up, he was surprised to see a small slip of a paper lying where the horn had hidden it. He decided that Kakashi was teasing him and had left it for the jinchuuriki to read.
He took it and read it once, his face immediately turning a bright red.
I wish Naruto wasn’t lonely anymore.
Naruto hadn’t even figured out a pair of lips was placed lightly at the left temple of his head, until he’d snapped out of the daze he was in and had backed away. He stared at the mask-less face of his sensei and his jaw dropped slightly.
Whether from surprise that Kakashi wasn’t wearing his mask or because of how…pretty the man looked, Naruto couldn’t decide. And he really didn’t want to, not with where his thoughts were going.
“I’m hoping your newer wishes consist of ‘I wish Kakashi had kissed my lips instead of my forehead’ or maybe even a ‘I wish I can see his face more.’ I might even settle for ‘I wish Kakashi wouldn’t wear his mask anymore.’”
Kakashi dodged the cornucopia that Naruto had chucked at his head, the blond’s face thoroughly red.
“Ero-sensei! Baka! Shut your mouth!”
Kakashi chuckled and moved quickly, ending up just in front of Naruto.
“Do you mean that?”
Naruto ‘hmphed’ and turned his head away.
“I hope I did everything else right,” Kakashi said sincerely.
Naruto knelt down to Kakashi’s level, “Everything was perfect. Thank you, sensei. This meant a lot to me. Although, it’s set up entirely to much like a date.”
“But I wanted it be.”
“Baka-sensei! Ecchi!”
Kakashi planted a chaste kiss on Naruto’s nose and then scrambled back as the blond threw himself forward to attack.
